Friends don’t let friends travel without healthy snacks.

We’ve all been there: It’s 6AM and your red-eye flight just landed in JFK. You haven’t had a bite to eat since you finished that packet of mini pretzels on the plane, so you decide to cruise through the terminal in search of breakfast.

It comes as no surprise that options are limited. Should you go for a Krispy Kreme donut, a Chick-fil-A breakfast sandwich, or grab a stale bagel from Starbucks? Before you know it, your blood sugar has spiked and your pocketbook just took a hit on an overpriced muffin.

I’ve definitely been in this scenario on more than one occasion, which is why I've learned to always fly with a variety of healthy snacks in my carry-on.

Banana Chips

I always travel with banana chips because they're a sweet and crunchy treat that's great for snacking. I like to enjoy them straight out of the bag, dipped into nut butter, or paired with dark chocolate. Many store-bought banana chips are fried in unhealthy oils and doused in added sugar, so be sure to read the label and find something that fits your values.

Dark Chocolate

I’m a chocoholic, so I always travel with a high-quality dark chocolate bar. I like the options from the brand Alter Eco because they're reasonably priced, fair trade, and don't contain soy. The blackout flavor is a great basic but for something unique, go for browned butter - it's my fave. Pro tip: Pack your chocolate in a ziploc bag to contain the little chocolate crumbles and shards that break off from the bar to keep your bag clean.

Ok, so this is technically a beverage, but Four Sigmatic mushroom elixirs are seriously so great for travel. There's a drink for almost every need, whether you need a healthy caffeine kick or relief from mental tension.
